  • Mullane 100S Snow Guards

    Mullane 100S standard nail application snow guards are designed to be installed on slate and asphalt shingle roofs by nail application during the installation of the roofing. All BRONZE GUARD® products are cast in pure tin bronze, using only virgin metals to assure the highest quality alloy. The shoe is cast bronze and the strap is 24-ounce cold-rolled copper.

    See side-by-side photos comparing the AS to the NA models. The NA is longer and sits higher on the roof with more space between the shoe and the strap for thicker shingles and slates (maximum 3/8" slate, tile, or shingle thickness). 

    The AS is shorter and the shoe is closer to the strap, which makes it more suitable for thinner roofing such as asphalt shingles. Check the CAD drawings below to make sure the dimensions work for your shingles.

    This is a traditional spike style snow guard from a design first patented in 1899. Model #100 is historically accurate for period restorations, but is just as appropriate for new construction or retrofit application on existing slate roofs. Because of its low profile, this model is more appropriate for residential usage. Model #100 is for applications on slate, shake, and shingle roofs, and is designed to fit between adjacent pieces of roof material so that only the casting is visible above the roof surface.

  • Mullane 200S Snow Guards

    The Mullane 200S snow guard is designed to be installed on slate or asphalt shingle roofs during the installation of the shingles. These snow guards fit BETWEEN the slates. Select the type below. 

    See side-by-side photos comparing the AS to the NA models. The NA is longer and sits higher on the roof with more space between the shoe and the strap for thicker shingles and slates (maximum 3/8" slate, tile, or shingle thickness).

  • Mullane 300S Snow Guards

    The Mullane 300S standard snow guard is available for new installations on slate roofs or asphalt shingle roofs. This is a solid bronze and copper pad style snow guard for all steep roof applications. The half round Model #300 casting is attached to a 20 oz. copper installation base flange by four brass rivets for extreme durability and snow load bearing capacity.

    Options:

    300S-NA for Slate Roofs:$19.00, 18" long, 2.56" wide, it protrudes up from the roof about 1.6"

    300S-AS for Asphalt Roofs:$18.50, 7.25" long, 2.56" wide, protrudes up from the roof about 1.6"

    Tested at 870 lbs. pressure. The solid bronze casting eliminates the corrosion problem caused by condensation which is formed inside closed, pressed copper snow guards.     The Mullane 200 CPT retrofit snow guard for tile roofs is designed to be installed on existing tile roofs with tiles up to 5/8" (0.625) thick with headlaps up to 3.5 inches. The shoe is cast bronze and the strap is 24-ounce cold-rolled copper.

  • Mullane 630M Snow Boss Snow Guards

    The Mullane 630 Snow Boss, manufactured by Berger, is a solid mill-finishcast-aluminum snow guard best used for curtain wall systems, window wells, or cornice shelves.   

    Typical installation is by means of high-strength adhesives such as SB-190, that develop superior bonding strength on modern metal roofs coated with plastic resin paints such as Kynar®. 

    Adhesive failure does not constitute Berger product defect and is not the responsibility of Berger. May also be mechanically attached by drilling holes in the snow guard and using stainless steel screws.

    The Mullane 650 Snow Boss Snow Guards for metal roof systems are constructed with durable, UV-resistant polycarbonate. Can be mechanically fastened or adhesive mounted.

    The Berger 650 includes a new patent-pending base design and the latest technological advance in adhesive-mounted snow guard systems. The cross-hatch design strengthens adhesive grip by increasing surface area and texture, providing for faster solvent escape and adhesive curing. A series of evenly spaced holes in the base allows the solvents to dissipate quickly and become "glue rivets."

  • Mullane 690M Snow Boss Snow Guards

    The Mullane 690M Snow Boss Snow Guards are decorative, spoked, half-round, solid cast, mill-finish aluminum snow guards attached with a high-strength adhesive, for the mid-panel application on all standing, batten, and flat seam, non-copper metal roofs. You can spray paint them to suit your desires, as shown in the photo.
     

    You can also mechanically attach these snow guards with stainless steel screws, but you have to drill pilot holes in them first (and still use an adhesive).

  • Mullane 300S-RH Retrofit Snow Guards

    The Mullane 300S-RH copper/bronze retro hook style snow guard is for installation on existing roofs. The solid bronze casting eliminates the corrosion problem caused by condensation which is formed inside closed, pressed copper snow guards. The installation flange can be easily fabricated to any length for any roof application.

    18" long, 2.5" wide, protrudes up from the roof about 2". The half-round Model 300 casting is attached to a 20 oz. copper installation base flange by four brass rivets for extreme durability and snow load-bearing capacity. The solid bronze casting is extremely durable and rugged, tested at 870 lbs. of pressure. 

    This snow guard has a "reach" of about 13.5". It can slide up underneath the slates 13.5" maximum before engaging the top of the underlying slate. For a typical 24" long slate with a 3" headlap and a 10.5" exposure (13.5" unexposed), the snow guard should just have enough reach to slide underneath, slide the length of the unexposed area, and hook over the top of the slate. Shorter slates will leave more of the snow guard exposed. One advantage to this snow guard is that you can install it over the head of slates on random width roofs and still maintain a uniform layout on the snow guards because you don't have to line the snow guards up with the slots.

  • Berger #2 Snow Guards

    Berger Brothers Model #2 heavy duty snow guard is available in galvanized iron or bronze. 5" wide, 2 3/4" high. The riveted bar is 1/8" x 1" x 12" long and goes 8" under the slate or shingle. When installing, the underlying slate is notched to allow for the snow guard strap. 

    These snow guards are also suited for wood shake, tile, and mineral surfaced shingles. Excellent in areas that receive heavy snow! This snow guard is to be installed during the slate roof installation; it is not a retrofit model.

  • Berger 100HP Snow Guards

    Berger 100HP Snow Guards are 9" long overall, and 4" wide, with a 1" wide strap. The angled shoe is 3" high and sits about 2.5" off the roof surface. These are good, economical, snow guards for new roof installations (not a retrofit model).

  • Berger #1 Snow Guards

    Berger #1 Heavy Duty Snow Guards for Standing Seam Roofs are available in bronze or galvanized iron.   

    The roofer's choice since 1883 for use on standing seam metal roofs! It weighs 5 1/2 oz., stands 2 3/4" high off of the roof, and is 5" wide. Pinch to clamp over the seam to create a rigid, permanent job. You may need the Double Welt Iron to hold the seam in place as you crimp the snow guard together (a sledgehammer head can work too). The gap that fits over the seam is 1/4" wide. If your seam is thicker than 1/4", this snow guard probably is not the best choice. For a thicker seam, try the Berger AP Aluminum Snow Guards.

  • SGLLC1 Copper Loop Snow Guards

    The Berger Brothers SGLLC1 Copper Loop economy snow guard is perfect for wood deck applications on newly installed slate roofs, wood shakes, or asphalt shingles. 

    We also sell them in a case of 300 with free shipping. When large quantities of snow guards are needed on a tight budget, these will do the job.

    Available in copper only and made from heavy gauge solid copper wire. Minimum quantities required for proper installation: use 50 guards per square for a 4:12 slope roof, 75 guards per square for a 6:12 slope roof, and 150 guards per square for a 12:12 slope roof. These snow guards nail into place like a slate hook or nail.

    Berger Snow Meister SG1 Cast Aluminum Snow Guards for Standing Seam Roofs are available in Mill Finish, with an Epoxy Primer, or in polished bronze. 

    The SG-1 Snow Meister Snow Guards are used for a traditional double lock standing seam roof that is 1.0" deep x .250" wide.  These guards fit both 1" and 1-1/2" high seams.

    The symmetrical design rotates 180 degrees to match the seam lock orientation. The set screws are stainless steel so these snow guards can be used with any type of metal roof.

    The heavy-duty Berger Pro 100 snow guard is compatible with corrugated, flat, natural slate, TruSlate, and asphalt shingled roofs. This snow guard provides fast installation and is ideal for existing roofs.  

    The superior design of the Pro 100 includes a one-inch gusset that reinforces the shoe, which makes this snow guard 5 times stronger than traditional residential snow guards. The Pro 100 has been tested to withstand a 300 lb. point load at any location when applied to the gusset side of the shoe. Simply insert the slotted bar under the slate or shingle, engage a nail with one of the conveniently placed slots, and pull to fully secure the bar.

    The Berger Brothers SGLLC1 Copper Loop-the-Loop economy snow guard is perfect for wood deck applications on newly installed slate roofs, wood shakes, or asphalt shingles.

    Available in copper only: made from heavy gauge solid copper wire. Minimum quantities required for proper installation: use 50 guards per square for a 4:12 slope roof, 75 guards per square for a 6:12 slope roof, and 150 guards per square for a 12:12 slope roof. These snow guards nail into place like a slate hook or nail. 

    Snow guards should always be installed where the potential for sudden sliding of ice and snow will be hazardous to people or property below.   • Berger AP400/516 Snow Guards

    Berger AP400 and AP516 snow guards are non-penetrating mill finish aluminum devices that have been engineered specifically for use with more popular structural and non-structural pre-formed and architectural metal roof systems. They're secured without glues or sealants, utilizing custom-milled stainless-steel set screws to clamp them in place. They're produced in cast aluminum and are available in two different seam widths and heights, and can be custom painted (see below).

    AP400: Seams up to 3/8" thick & 1 1/2" high.

    These snow guards do not restrict thermal movement. The deep throats permit them to be secured directly without damaging caps or compressing internal gasketing or sealant pockets. The 6" wide, deep blade design makes it particularly effective in retaining snow with the higher seams and wider panel widths common in pre-formed architectural roofing.

  • Berger RT200/300 Snow Guards

    Berger RT200 and RT300 snow guards are non-penetrating devices that are secured to the standing seams of metal roofs utilizing stainless steel set screws to clamp them in place. They require no glues or sealants and will not restrict thermal movement or contribute to unsightly oil canning. These are particularly suited for double-lock and mechanically seamed metal roofing. Being traditional in design, they are ideal for restoration and preservation work. 

    RT200: For seams up to 3/16" wide (0.188") and no higher than one inch. Suited for use with light gauge sheet metal such as 40 lb. terne, 26-gauge galvanized, and 16 oz. copper. 

    RT300: For seams up to 9/32" wide (0.297") and no higher than one inch. Suited for heavier gauge metals such as 20-ounce copper, 24-gauge prefinished metal, and products of similar thickness.

  • Fitrite 124 2-Pipe Snow Rail Brackets

    Mullane Fitrite #124 2-Pipe Bronze or Galvanized Snow Rail Bracket for asphalt shingle roofs. 

    The FR124 Mini Protector Snow Fence Bracket is available in malleable galvanized iron or cast bronze mounted on a brass plate. The castings are mounted on a 2" x 12" plate with pre-drilled holes for easy installation. The bracket assembly is set up to accommodate two 1/2" I.D. pipes (use galvanized pipes with the iron bracket and brass with the bronze bracket). Brackets are adjustable to the roof pitch. The FR124 should be used only where low to moderate snow loads are anticipated and can be mounted to most any roof surface. 

    If you want a 2-pipe snow rail bracket for slate roofs, use the Galvanized FR121  or the Bronze FR122. The brackets are sized the same as the slate size.

    Snow rails are used along the perimeter of slate roofs for the prevention of sudden and unexpected ice and snow avalanches, which can damage people, cars, shrubbery, lower roofs, and other property underneath. The rail system can also include stainless steel expanded metal to prevent slates and other debris from sliding under the rails and creating a hazard. Also, a standard field array of snow guards can be included on the field of the roof above the snow rail for maximum protection.

    Snow rail fence brackets are installed parallel to and approximately 24-36 inches above the eaves. The brackets should be spaced from 18-24 inches to no more than 42-48 inches apart horizontally, depending on the pitch of the roof and the expected snow load. It is recommended to use through bolts with a backer plate on the underside of the roof deck. Bronze, brass, or stainless steel pipe is recommended. Copper water pipes should not be used with Mullane snow rails, although they are used with Sieger snow rail brackets, both for     slate roofs and for standing seam roofs. 

    High snow load areas should use a three-pipe system such as the Mullane 500, the Mullane Fitrite 131 ML, or the Mullane Fitrite 132 BR,  If a smaller system is used, then it should be supplemented with an additional snow guard array in the field of the roof above the snow rail.

  • Mullane 500 3-Pipe Snow Rail Bracket

    Mullane 500 3-Pipe Bronze/Brass Snow Rail Bracket

    The Mullane 500 is a super heavy-duty copper/brass snow rail system used mostly on institutional buildings, government buildings, churches, college dormitories, and anywhere a high liability from falling ice and snow exists. 

    The plates are made to fit the size of the slate on your roof. Common sizes are shown below, but call us at 814-786-9085 or email us for other sizes and shipping costs. This is a special order item that requires a lead time and is non-returnable and non-refundable. Larger orders are eligible for free shipping. 

    Install snow fence brackets parallel to the eaves, spacing the brackets from 24" to no more than 48" apart, depending upon the pitch of the roof and the anticipated snow load. Install brackets approximately 24" to 36" from the roof edge.  

    The Model #500 Snow Fence Bracket is cast from solid bronze and is mounted to a solid brass plate for lifetime durability. The castings have been carefully engineered to assure maximum strength at the points of greatest stress when under load. Double back brace brackets are standard and give redundant protection against casting failure when under load. Holes for rails are 1.125" to accommodate 1" (O.D.) brass pipe. The brackets are adjustable to three angles: 90, 67.5, and 45 degrees. The base plate is 1/8" 220 bronze. 

    Model #500 is typically installed along the perimeter of slate roofs with rafters up to 25 ft. in areas with moderate to high snowfalls. For longer rafter lengths use additional snow rails. Model #500 is a custom order and the base plate can be fabricated to any specified size.
