The Mullane 200S-RH snow guard is designed to be installed on existing slate roofs with slate up to 1/4" (0.25) thick and headlaps up to three (3) inches. The shoe is cast bronze and the strap is 24-ounce cold-rolled copper.
Slide this snow guard in between two existing slates until the top of the snow guard hooks over the top of the underlying slate (see video). This spike style snow guard is fabricated from the same sheet metal components as the #100, but the #200 casting is 30% larger than the #100. Both products are equally strong and effective in their capacity to hold snow on the roof, but the Model #200 is more appropriate to larger scale buildings, or where the roof material is thicker than usual, such as tile roofing.
All BRONZE GUARD® products are cast in pure tin bronze, using only virgin metals to assure the highest quality alloy. The castings are produced locally by old-world craftsmen using state of the art equipment to assure that each casting is of consistent quality. The final assembly is done by hand, using only solid copper rivets, so that each finished product is of uniform quality.
$20.00 each.
This snow guard is also available in a standard style for new roof installations.
NOTE: Returned Berger and Mullane snow guards incur a 25% restocking fee. Please call (814) 786-9085 or email us with any questions to make sure you're ordering the correct product for your project.

The Mullane 100S-RH Retrofit snow guard is designed to be installed on existing slate roofs with slate up to 1/4" (0.25) thick and headlaps up to three (3) inches.
All BRONZE GUARD® products are cast in pure tin bronze, using only virgin metals to assure the highest quality alloy. Slide this snow guard in between two existing slates until the top of the snow guard hooks over the top of the underlying slate. See instructional video below.
A traditional spike style snow guard, from a design first patented in 1899, the Model #100 is historically accurate for period restorations, but is just as appropriate for new construction or retrofit application on existing slate roofs. Because of its low profile, this model is more appropriate for residential usage. The Model #100 is for applications on slate, shake, and shingle roofs, and is designed to fit between adjacent pieces of roof material, so that only the casting is visible above the roof surface.
$19.50 each.
The #100 snow guard has a smaller face than the Mullane #200 Retrofit Snowguard, and is less expensive.NOTE: Returned Berger and Mullane snow guards incur a 25% restocking fee. We offer free shipping on orders over $1,000.00.Mullane 300S-RH Retrofit Snow Guards
The Mullane 300S-RH copper/bronze retrohook style snow guard is for installing on existing roofs. The solid bronze casting eliminates the corrosion problem caused by condensation which is formed inside of closed, pressed copper snow guards. The installation flange can be easily fabricated to any length for any roof application.
18" long, 2.5" wide, protrudes up from the roof about 2". The half round Model 300 casting is attached to a 20 oz. copper installation base flange by four brass rivets for extreme durability and snow load bearing capacity. The solid bronze casting is extremely durable and rugged, tested at 870 lbs. of pressure.
This snow guard has a "reach" of about 13.5". It can slide up underneath the slates 13.5" maximum before engaging the top of the underlying slate. For a typical 24" long slate with a 3" headlap and a 10.5" exposure (13.5" unexposed), the snow guard should just have enough reach to slide underneath, slide the length of the unexposed area, and hook over the top of the slate. Shorter slates will leave more of the snow guard exposed. One advantage to this snow guard is that you can install it over the head of slates on random width roofs and still maintain a uniform layout on the snow guards because you don't have to line the snow guards up with the slots.
$19.00 each.

Gough SGAR-SLS Retrofit Snow Guards
This is a heavy-duty solid copper retrofit snow guard that's slid into place under existing slates and hooked on an existing slating nail on an already installed slate roof. 16 3/8" long, 14" reach, face is 3 1/4" wide and 1 3/8" high. This product is also available in custom lengths. Call us at 814-786-9085 for custom orders.
This retrofit snow guard has a longer (14 inch) reach than the Berger Brothers Pro #100 series by 1.5". This allows the snow guard to be more easily used on roofs with 24" long slates and on graduated slate roofs. More about retrofit snow guard "reach."This is a good all-around retrofit snow guard for use on roofs with any size slate. The solid, low-profile face prevents the bending and twisting often seen on snow guards with higher profiles, while still retaining snow loads. Retrofit snow guards are designed to be added to already existing slate roofs. Regular snow guards are designed to be installed on new slates roofs when the slate is being installed.
FOR RAFTER LENGTHS UP TO 16 FEET: Traditionally, in the Midwest snow guards have been installed 30" to 36" on center in each row, with 3 staggered rows beginning above the outside wall at the eave. In the northeast, snow guards are typically installed at every other slate horizontally, and staggered at every horizontal slate course or every other horizontal slate course vertically, with 3 horizontal rows minimum.
FOR RAFTER LENGTHS OVER 16 FEET: The number of rows is increased with rafter lengths over 16 feet and with roof pitches greater than 6:12. Increased snow load in some states require additional snow guards per square farther up the roof.We offer free shipping on orders of sufficient quantity. Gough SGAR Snow Guards
Model #SGAR Gough 24 Oz. Copper Snow Guard.
A heavy-duty solid copper snow guard that's nailed or screwed into place during the installation of new slate roofs. Face is 3 1/4" wide and 1 3/8" high.
Snow guards should be installed where the potential for the sudden sliding of ice and snow can be hazardous to people or property below. Falling snow is a safety issue, and careful consideration of liability issues should be part of a carefully designed roof system in all areas prone to winter snow and ice.
"Retrofit" snow guards are designed to be added to already existing slate roofs. Regular snow guards like these are designed to be installed on new slates roofs when the slate is being installed.
FOR RAFTER LENGTHS UP TO 16 FEET: Traditionally, in the Midwest, snow guards have been installed 30" to 36" on center in each row with 3 staggered rows beginning above the outside wall at the eave, i.e. approximately one per linear foot of gutter line.
Increased snow load in some states requires additional snow guards per square farther up the roof.Gough SGAR-STR Snow Guards
Gough Model #SGAR-STR 24 oz. copper snow guard with hooked strap installs over the top of the slate. The strap is 15" long with a one-inch fold at the top. 3.25" wide at the base, stands 1 3/8" off the roof at the base. 14" reach (see image).
For random width slate and an even, consistent, aesthetic pattern of snow guards, the hooked strap will allow you to select the horizontal position of the snow guard from left to right without being limited to the position of the copper nail of the slate.
This snow guard has a 14" reach if you're using it as a retrofit snow guard, but you would have to be able to slide it under slates that are already nailed in to be able to use it as a retrofit, which may be difficult unless the slates are loosened.
This product is also available in custom lengths. Call us at 814-786-9085 for custom orders.
