5-Piece Hook Ladder Set

I’ve been a painting contractor for many years. Right after the pandemic started I downsized to just me. I sold a van and a ton of equipment. One piece of that equipment was a roof (chicken) ladder. I thought, “I’m not going to be climbing steep pitches anymore so I’ll get rid of it”. Wrong! Even though I’m an old geezer, I still do decent sized exteriors and guess what, they can have steep roof pitches. So when I went looking for a new ladder I came across this company and looked everything over and decided to give them a try. Fantastic decision. Excellent value for the price, great response and shipping times and overall a very good experience. The great thing about this new to me set up is that the sections are 6’ making them easy to handle, transport and configure. The shepherds crook is a separate piece and that in itself is a great idea. My old ladder was two 12’ sections with one section having the crook on it. This is way better. The connectors are on the sections already and it is really well made. For something as simple as a ladder it seems odd to make a big deal out of it. But when you need to access dangerous pitches you want a really solid roof ladder. I absolutely can say that this is an excellent investment.

This chicken ladder is heavy duty, the hook and 4 ladder segments came in 3 seperate boxes. The hook is somewhat flexible at the angle connecting the actual hook to the attachment bars for the ladder attachments, so be sure the ladder lays flat on the roof.. The connectors for the ladder attachments (square couplings) do not fit tight on the round ladder sections, which gives more movement before actually moving the ladder upwards on the roof, so you loose the rigidity of instant movement, ie... you have to lift the ladder up off the roof top higher than you would than if it had rigid connections before you can move it up to flip, or to move it to the side ,this is very apparent with the full 24 feet attached, and handles better the less 6 foot sections you have attached. (granted you can slide the ladder on your new shingles or metal roof but the couplings can be very aggressive toward new roofing, I tried wrapping the ladder pipe with pipe insulation but this elevated the ladder off the roof applying more pressure to the angle iron attached to the hook causing it to flex, and I would assume repeated use like this would weaken the angle rendering it unsafe)
All in all it is a rugged ladder, and works well..
